Trump insiders are reportedly growing uneasy over Melania Trump’s latest public moves, with one longtime Trump biographer claiming the first lady’s increasingly unpredictable behavior is creating fresh headaches inside the White House.

Michael Wolff, the controversial author known for chronicling the chaos surrounding President Donald Trump, suggested this week that Melania may be quietly distancing herself from the administration at a time when political tensions are already running high.

Speaking on the “Inside Trump’s Head” podcast, Wolff pointed to Melania’s recent Mother’s Day essay published in The Washington Post, where she described mothers as “the foundation” of American democracy and praised them as the “first teachers of empathy, aspiration, and discipline.”

While the message may have sounded harmless on the surface, Wolff argued it sparked deeper questions inside Trump’s orbit about what the first lady is really trying to say — and why she’s suddenly speaking out now.

According to Wolff, some around Trump see a pattern emerging.

“The times that she has come out, that has not been good for them,” he claimed on the podcast. “Her peculiar attitude about everything, her strategic absences… this is not necessarily controllable for them.”

The remarks added fuel to growing speculation that Melania is carving out her own image separate from her husband’s political brand. Just weeks ago, the first lady also made headlines after publicly distancing herself from convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, a move that reignited scrutiny over old Trump-world connections.

Melania’s Washington Post column quickly became a lightning rod online as readers mocked both the article and the newspaper for publishing it.

One widely shared comment pointed out that Melania wrote about challenging herself to move “beyond the traditional responsibilities of the East Wing” — despite the fact that parts of the East Wing had reportedly been demolished months earlier during White House renovations.

Another reader blasted the newspaper directly, writing that The Washington Post “was once a great newspaper” before sarcastically adding, “Now it’s… this.”

Wolff’s co-host Joanna Coles also ripped the piece, saying it felt lifeless and strangely detached for such a personal topic.

“There are so many ghostwriters and speechwriters you could call to write something really moving,” Coles said. “And yet, they’ve chosen to go the lazy route.”

Wolff went even further, questioning why the newspaper decided to run the essay at all.

“When they’re handed this thing, why wouldn’t they say, ‘No, obviously we can’t publish this,’” he said. “Or are they publishing it because it kind of hangs itself?”

The White House has not publicly commented on the latest round of speculation surrounding Melania. However, Trump communications director Steven Cheung has repeatedly blasted Wolff in the past, once calling him a “lying sack of s–t” who “routinely fabricates stories.”

Still, Melania’s recent visibility has sparked growing fascination online, especially given her historically low-profile role compared to past first ladies.

For years, Melania largely avoided the spotlight, often disappearing from public view for weeks at a time. But over the last several weeks, she has reemerged with surprise statements, public appearances, and opinion pieces that have left both critics and Trump allies wondering what exactly is behind the sudden shift.

And according to Wolff, that uncertainty may be exactly what has some inside Trump’s White House on edge.
