Tucker Carlson is suddenly asking for forgiveness over Donald Trump’s return to the White House, but the women of The View were not buying a single word of it.
The former Fox News star, who spent years helping boost Trump and rally support around him, is now claiming he feels deep regret over the role he played in bringing the 79-year-old president back to power. Carlson told supporters he would be “tormented” by it for a long time and insisted he wanted to apologize for misleading people, even if he claimed it was not intentional. But when The View played the clip for its audience, the reaction was swift, brutal, and full of eye rolls.
Whoopi Goldberg introduced the moment by telling viewers that the far-right commentator now says he regrets helping put “You-Know-Who” back in the White House. The audience immediately erupted with jeers, setting the tone for what turned into an all-out takedown.
Joy Behar wasted no time mocking Carlson’s sudden change of heart. “You have to cut him some slack,” she joked. “He has what they call liar’s remorse.” Her co-host Sunny Hostin was even more blunt, making it clear Carlson would get no sympathy from her.
“The world’s on fire and you can’t just say ‘Oopsies!’” Hostin snapped.
For the panel, Carlson’s apology did not sound like courage or accountability. It sounded convenient. Hostin pointed to Carlson’s long and messy history with Trump, reminding viewers that this is not the first time he has publicly shifted his tone when it comes to the president. She brought up messages revealed during the Dominion Voting Systems case, when Carlson reportedly said he hated Trump passionately, only to later return to backing him and eventually endorsing him again during the 2024 election cycle.
That reversal is exactly why Hostin said she was not interested in forgiving him now. In her view, Carlson helped fuel the very chaos he now claims to regret, and a last-minute confession does not erase years of influence, damage, and political opportunism.
Sara Haines took the criticism even further, arguing that Carlson’s political transformations always seem to follow the same pattern: wherever the money, attention, and outrage go, he follows. She lumped Megyn Kelly into the same category, accusing both media figures of saying whatever gets clicks, no matter how reckless or hypocritical it may be.
Haines also brought up Carlson’s recent interview with white nationalist Nick Fuentes, accusing him of offering almost no real pushback to deeply troubling rhetoric. To her, that was proof that Carlson is still driven less by principle than by platform-building and provocation. Her final verdict was scathing: “That man just needs to disappear.”
Alyssa Farah Griffin, who has clashed with Trump-world herself, agreed with the broader point. Carlson, she said, goes wherever the clicks go.
The backlash comes as Carlson and Trump are locked in an increasingly ugly public split. After years of acting like one of Trump’s loudest media defenders, Carlson has now tried to distance himself from the president and even admitted that people like him helped make this moment possible. On his own show, Carlson said that in small but very real ways, he and millions of supporters share responsibility for what is happening now.
His brother, Buckley Carlson, a former Trump speechwriter, went even further by calling Trump an “out of control, megalomaniacal, destructive president” and suggesting Congress should consider the 25th Amendment.
Trump, of course, did not stay quiet. Earlier this month, he lashed out at Carlson, Kelly, and other right-wing critics, branding them “NUT JOBS” and “TROUBLEMAKERS” while taking aim at their intelligence in a classic Trump-style tirade.
So while Carlson may be trying to rebrand himself as a regretful insider who sees the light, The View made one thing crystal clear: they believe he helped create this political disaster, and they have no patience for what they see as a too-late apology tour.
