A quiet morning school run in Massachusetts has turned into a jaw-dropping controversy after a bus driver was accused of doing the unthinkable—with a group of very young children sitting just feet away.

According to police in Swansea, the disturbing incident unfolded on March 30 as a school bus was making its routine trip to Hoyle Elementary School. Authorities say a 71-year-old driver allegedly pulled the bus over, instructed students to move to the back, and then relieved himself while still seated behind the wheel.

Yes—while kids were on board.

Officials say the driver didn’t stop the route after the alleged act. Instead, he continued driving and dropped the children off at school as if nothing had happened.

The situation only came to light after several students spoke up to their teachers, triggering an immediate investigation by both school officials and local police.

There were 12 children on the bus at the time, ranging from Pre-K to second grade. Authorities later said they do not believe any of the children actually witnessed the act itself—but the seriousness of the allegation has still sent shockwaves through the community.

Parents were quickly notified.

“This is a matter we take extremely seriously,” Swansea Police said in a statement, calling the alleged behavior “unacceptable,” especially given the age of the children involved.

The fallout was swift. The driver was immediately removed from duty and fired, with the school district confirming he will never drive students in the system again. The transportation provider, Amaral Bus Company, is now under review as district officials examine how something like this could happen—and how to prevent it in the future.

Meanwhile, detectives are continuing to investigate, and a report has been filed with the Massachusetts Department of Children & Families, as required in incidents involving minors.

As of now, no criminal charges have been filed.

But for many parents, that may not ease concerns.

The idea that something like this could happen during a routine school ride has left families demanding answers—and reassurance that their children are truly safe on the bus each morning.

  1. That should warrant a reprimand, but I don\’t see it as \”evil\”.  Americans are far to \”Puritan\” about body functions.  In the rest of the world both men and women relieve themselves by the side of the road.  American should \”grow up\” and quit being prepubescent children regarding bodily functions.  I feel sorry for the guy.  Dr. Larry Schlatter
