Mom Fights Off Attacker After Daughter is Dragged from Bus Stop

A terrifying scene unfolded early Monday morning in South Florida when a routine school bus stop turned into a nightmare—and one mother refused to let it end in tragedy.

According to Lauderhill police, a teenage girl was suddenly attacked while waiting for her bus outside the Lakes of Inverrary building. Witnesses say the suspect, believed to be in the middle of a mental health crisis, aggressively grabbed the girl, snatched her phone, and began dragging her away from the stop.

That’s when everything escalated.

Residents say they were jolted awake by desperate screams echoing through the building.

“I heard ‘Help me, help me, help me,’” one neighbor recalled. “It was nonstop screaming.”

The suspect reportedly shouted that she had been wandering along Interstate 95 for days before targeting the teen. As the situation spiraled, the girl’s mother rushed outside—and immediately jumped into the fight.

What followed was pure chaos.

Police say the suspect turned on the mother, violently shoving her through a glass window during the struggle. Blood quickly covered the lobby floor as the confrontation intensified.

Despite suffering deep cuts to her arm, the mother refused to back down.

In a dramatic moment of survival, police say she grabbed a shard of broken glass and stabbed the attacker in self-defense. But even that didn’t stop the suspect.

When officers arrived, they found all three still locked in a physical struggle. Police ultimately had to deploy a taser to bring the situation under control.

Both the mother and daughter were rushed to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, authorities said.

Shaken residents say the incident is part of a growing problem in the building.

“We’ve been dealing with squatters and homeless people for a while,” one neighbor said. “There are kids here trying to get to school—anything can happen.”

For one family, it nearly did.

And if not for a mother willing to fight back—glass and all—the outcome could have been far worse.
