Nick Cannon is back in the headlines, and this time it is not for his music, his TV gigs, or his ever-growing family. The entertainer is stirring major backlash after unloading on the Democratic Party and openly declaring his support for Donald Trump in a jaw-dropping new interview.

During a recent episode of his Big Drive show, Cannon got candid while talking with Amber Rose about her shift toward the Republican Party. But what started as a political conversation quickly turned into something far more explosive.

At one point, Cannon called Democrats the “party of the KKK,” reviving one of the most inflammatory talking points in American politics. He pointed to the party’s ugly historical ties in the Reconstruction-era South and argued that Republicans, led by Abraham Lincoln, were the ones who freed enslaved people.

The history Cannon referenced is rooted in real events, but critics have long argued that this kind of framing leaves out the bigger picture. While white Southern Democrats once defended segregation and white supremacy, the political landscape changed dramatically during the civil rights era, when many of those same voters and power structures shifted away from the modern Democratic coalition.

Still, Cannon did not stop there.

Rather than align himself neatly with either side, he suggested both major parties are deeply flawed, echoing the longtime frustration of Americans who feel alienated by the country’s broken political system. He referenced W.E.B. Du Bois and the idea that the two-party structure can feel like the same machine wearing different labels.

But the comment that may have drawn the most attention came when Cannon made it clear he has a soft spot for Trump.

That raised eyebrows fast, especially given Cannon’s past criticism of the president. He previously blasted Trump as a bully, so hearing him now sound far more supportive marked a noticeable shift. Even if Cannon insists he is thinking independently and refusing to pick a team, his praise for Trump is likely to fuel even more debate over where he really stands.

For many on the left, Cannon’s remarks will land as reckless, oversimplified, and tailor-made for outrage. At a moment when attacks on democracy, civil rights, and voting access remain front and center, casually tossing out a line like that is bound to hit a nerve.

One thing is certain: Nick Cannon knows how to get people talking. And with comments like these, he has once again thrown himself straight into the political firestorm.
