The culture wars took a bizarre turn this week — and somehow, denim ended up at the center of it.

During a segment on Fox & Friends, tensions flared when hosts debated one of Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s more… unconventional habits: working out in jeans. Yes, jeans.

Kennedy, now serving as Health and Human Services Secretary, casually explained on a recent podcast that his denim-in-the-gym routine wasn’t some grand statement — just convenience.

“I had a busy schedule,” he said. “I’d go hiking with my dogs, then straight to the gym in my jeans… and then I just got in too deep.”

That last line got laughs — but not everyone was amused.

Host Lawrence Jones recoiled at the idea, bluntly calling it “disgusting,” clearly baffled that anyone would defend such a fashion choice in a fitness setting. Meanwhile, comedian Jimmy Failla shrugged it off, saying he didn’t love it — but didn’t see it as a big deal either.

And that’s where things took a sharper, more political turn.

Rather than keeping the debate about gym etiquette, Failla pivoted into a swipe at hypothetical political alternatives, turning what could’ve been a lighthearted moment into yet another culture clash. The exchange quickly became less about jeans — and more about identity, politics, and the ever-present Fox News playbook of stirring outrage over optics instead of substance.

But here’s the bigger question many viewers are asking: why are we even talking about this?

Because while cable news fixates on Kennedy’s wardrobe choices, critics say there are far more serious concerns surrounding his leadership. From his long history of promoting vaccine skepticism to his eyebrow-raising comments about public health — including controversial remarks minimizing concerns about COVID — many health experts and advocacy groups have been sounding the alarm.

After Kennedy recently doubled down on those views in another podcast appearance, prominent healthcare voices didn’t hold back. Some have even called for his resignation, arguing that his rhetoric undermines public trust in science at a time when it’s needed most.

So yes — the jeans are odd. Maybe even a little gross, depending on who you ask.

But the real issue isn’t what RFK Jr. wears to the gym.

It’s what he’s bringing to one of the most critical public health roles in the country — and whether Americans are being distracted by denim while far bigger stakes hang in the balance.
