In a stunning reversal that’s sending shockwaves through political circles, former North Carolina Lt. Gov. Mark Robinson is now acknowledging that parts of a long-denied scandal tied to explicit online posts may, in fact, be true.

The embattled Republican, once a rising star in MAGA politics, made the admission during a candid appearance on the “After the Call” podcast—marking the first time he has publicly softened his blanket denials that dominated headlines during his failed 2024 gubernatorial run.

“I won’t say that I completely lied… there’s some truth to it,” Robinson said, adding that he struggled with what he described as an “obsession” with pornography.

The remarks represent a sharp pivot from his earlier stance. At the height of the controversy, Robinson fiercely rejected reports that he had used an alias on an adult website in the early 2000s to post inflammatory comments, including identifying himself as a “black Nazi” and expressing extreme and offensive views.

At the time, Robinson dismissed the allegations outright, declaring: “This is not us. These are not our words.”

He even launched a $50 million lawsuit against CNN, accusing the network of conducting a “high-tech lynching.” The lawsuit was later quietly dropped.

Now, Robinson says his denials were not just about defending himself—they were about protecting someone else: President Donald Trump.

“I realized how important it was for President Trump to win,” Robinson said on the podcast. “The country was in the fight of its life.”

According to Robinson, he believed the controversy surrounding him could be weaponized to damage Trump politically, especially in battleground North Carolina.

“I didn’t want to be the person that cost the president the election,” he explained. “If I had to ignore the truth at that moment… I felt like it was the right thing to do.”

Robinson framed the situation as part of a broader political battle, claiming he was being used as a target to undermine a larger movement.

“It wasn’t about me,” he said. “It was about a cause much bigger than that.”

Despite the controversy, Trump had stood firmly behind Robinson throughout the 2024 race, even drawing national attention for an eyebrow-raising comparison.

“I think you’re better than Martin Luther King,” Trump said at a rally. “I think you are Martin Luther King times two.”

Still, the political fallout proved devastating.

Robinson lost the gubernatorial race to Democrat Josh Stein by a wide margin—more than 14 points—marking a dramatic collapse for a candidate once seen as a conservative powerhouse in the state.

In hindsight, Robinson says he has no regrets about how he handled the scandal—even if it meant denying the truth.

Asked whether he would do anything differently, his answer was blunt:

“I’d make the exact same decision.”

The White House has not publicly responded to Robinson’s latest comments.

The episode raises fresh questions about political loyalty, personal accountability, and how far candidates are willing to go when the stakes are at their highest.
