An elderly man and his wife were pulled over while they were en route to surprise their daughter at work. Fulton County Ohio Sheriff

An elderly Ohio couple dressed as Santa and Mrs. Claus turned a routine traffic stop into a Christmas comedy sketch this weekend — after being pulled over for speeding on their way to surprise their daughter.

The Fulton County Sheriff’s Office says the pair, both in full North Pole attire, were stopped on Route 20 late Saturday afternoon. What happened next has locals chuckling — and the deputy joking about losing his spot on Santa’s “nice” list.

Body-camera footage posted by the department shows the deputy approaching the car before stopping in disbelief.

“Santa!” he blurts out, shining his flashlight through the driver’s window.

“Yep, that’s me,” the man replies, adjusting his red cap and beard.

The driver, who identified himself only as “Nick,” quickly told the deputy he had a concealed carry permit.

“Santa has a CCW? Times are rough,” the deputy laughed.

“You gotta protect yourself,” Nick quipped, as his wife — the self-proclaimed Mrs. Claus — added, “The North Pole isn’t what it used to be!”

The couple admitted they were rushing to see their daughter before her shift ended. “I wasn’t watching the speedometer,” the man said. “Guess I was flying faster than the sleigh.”

The deputy decided against a citation, giving them only a friendly warning. “Slow it down, Santa,” he said, posing for a photo before letting them go.

The sheriff’s department later posted the footage online, joking in its caption: “Ho ho hold on! Santa and Mrs. Claus were spotted flying a little too fast through Fulton County. No coal was issued — just a reminder that even sleighs need to slow down.”

The video has gone viral, drawing thousands of amused comments. “Proof Santa really does make practice runs before Christmas Eve,” one Facebook user wrote.

Ohio residents say the light-hearted moment was a welcome dose of holiday cheer in a tense season.
“It’s nice to see cops and citizens sharing a laugh for once,” said Toledo resident Janet Duffy. “The world could use more of that.”

As for the real Santa? According to NORAD’s Santa Tracker, he’s still scheduled to deliver gifts on time — just hopefully within the legal speed limit.

  1. What was Mrs Clause doing to Santa that made police pull the car over? Was the car weaving or just accellorating then slowing down? Speed up, then slowing down? Was Santa’s eyes rolled back into his head when pulled over? Dizzy? Moaning?
These are specifics necessary when you go to court.

  2. I love this. I miss this in America. Best video I have seen for years on Christmas Day. This couple was so cute. See what honesty with police and cooperation looks like. It’s great. I was stopped on my birthday in the city about 30 miles away. My husband had to drop off one of vehicles to get worked on at a dealership so he got us reservations at a nice restaurant. I drove the other vehicle and picked him up. So when leaving the dealership he told me we have reservations and I was excited. We live we’re eating out is about four places. So I turned the corner and got into the far lane so I wouldn’t miss a parking spot and of course I wasn’t thinking. So I got the lights and pulled over. She ask for my info and gave to her. She came back and said she was just going to warn me. I thanked her and she said have a good evening. I told my husband if she let me off because of my 65 birthday. He said he didn’t know. So see cooperation is best with the police. Especially in other towns and cities where they don’t know you. I hope the officer got a special gift for Christmas he deserves it.
