A quiet Queens neighborhood was rocked Saturday night when a 76-year-old man was found brutally stabbed to death in what police are calling a domestic killing.
Officers responded to a home on 159th Avenue and 102nd Street in Howard Beach just before midnight on Sept. 13. Inside the basement, they discovered longtime resident John Muraco suffering from multiple stab wounds to the chest. Paramedics pronounced him dead at the scene.
A knife was recovered inside the home, and police quickly took a 25-year-old man into custody for questioning. Law enforcement sources say the suspect is believed to be a relative of the victim, though the motive remains unclear.
Detectives with the 106th Precinct are continuing to investigate, and charges against the man are still pending.
The shocking crime has left neighbors stunned in the tight-knit community, as police work to piece together what led to the deadly attack inside Muraco’s home.
