Massachusetts Senator Elizabeth Warren had an unexpected moment on Capitol Hill this week when she fell backward while attempting to sit on a desk during a vote on the Senate floor.
Video from the chamber shows Warren losing her balance, tipping the desk, and falling to the ground. But what happened next was something rarely seen in today’s political climate—several Republican senators immediately jumped in to help.
Among the first to assist were Senators Ted Cruz of Texas and Susan Collins of Maine. Cruz even offered his hand to help Warren back to her feet. Senators Rand Paul of Kentucky and John Barrasso of Wyoming were also spotted moving toward her to offer support.
Warren, who appeared uninjured, quickly stood up and resumed her duties.

The incident occurred during a vote on two resolutions aimed at blocking U.S. arms sales to Israel, both introduced by Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders. Warren voted in favor of the measures, which were ultimately rejected as every Republican senator opposed them.
Sanders, a longtime critic of Israel’s military actions in Gaza, has pushed back against continued weapons transfers amid the ongoing conflict with Hamas.
Warren’s office has not yet responded to requests for comment.
The fall, while minor, brought back memories of several public stumbles by former President Joe Biden during his time in office—including a well-publicized fall at the U.S. Air Force Academy commencement in 2023, and another slip while exiting Air Force One in Michigan the following year.
