Donald Trump was quietly teetering on the edge of financial ruin. Then he ran for president again — and suddenly, the money came pouring in.
According to bombshell new reporting from The New York Times, the self-proclaimed billionaire had just $50 million in liquid cash by 2018 — a paltry sum for someone who brags about gold-plated penthouses and private jets. Behind the scenes, Trump was scrambling to stay afloat, selling off pieces of his empire and watching the cash from The Apprentice dry up.
“He was desperate — and he saw the presidency not just as a political comeback, but a financial lifeline,” said one former White House official, speaking on condition of anonymity. “Running for president became his best business deal in years.”
In court, Trump played the rich man card with his usual bravado.
“I’ve had a lot of cash for a long time,” he boasted during his civil fraud trial in 2023. But documents told a very different story: erratic cash flow, property firesales, and a business empire that hadn’t built anything new or profitable in over a decade.
When he wasn’t selling buildings, he was racking up bills — and not small ones. By early 2024, Trump was buried under a mountain of legal penalties and payouts:
- $355 million for lying about his net worth in New York
- $88.3 million from back-to-back losses in the E. Jean Carroll lawsuits
- $100 million in tax liabilities, still looming like a guillotine
The real money didn’t start flowing again until Trump won back the presidency. That’s when the floodgates opened — and so did a shameless new chapter in Trump’s monetization of public office.
His sons, Don Jr. and Eric, immediately got to work turning the Trump Organization into a global cash vacuum, cutting deals with foreign elites from the Middle East to Southeast Asia.
And then came the crypto gold rush.
- A jaw-dropping $2 billion investment from the United Arab Emirates into the Trump family’s crypto firm
- A $2.5 billion fundraising spree by Trump Media to buy up Bitcoin
- The launch of $TRUMP, a meme coin that somehow pulled in $350 million within weeks
“This isn’t a presidential administration — it’s a financial cartel with a campaign logo,” said ethics watchdog Noah Bookbinder.
Trump didn’t stop at coins and crypto. He turned the presidency into a full-on merchandise bonanza.
From overpriced ‘Gulf of America’ hats to Trump-branded cologne, MAGA phone plans, and even a Trump-themed mobile network, the commander-in-chief is pushing product like it’s Black Friday every day.
“This is what happens when a con man gets control of the most powerful office on Earth,” said Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY). “He’s not even hiding it. He’s daring the country to stop him — and no one is.”
Trump’s sons announced a $1 billion luxury hotel and residence in Dubai, a $5.5 billion golf resort in Qatar, and a new Trump Tower in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia — all while their father sits in the Oval Office.
The family’s crypto assets have now eclipsed their real estate holdings, turning Trump Inc. into something more like TrumpCoin International.
“He’s selling access to power in plain sight,” said Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse (D-RI). “This is not diplomacy. It’s a global grift.”
Trump’s financial comeback didn’t come from savvy investing or smart business. It came from selling off pieces of the presidency — one hat, one crypto coin, one foreign deal at a time.
He was nearly broke. Now he’s back in the White House — and getting richer by the day.
The question every American should be asking: How much of our democracy is left after Donald Trump sold it off?

AOC, Bernie, etc. It’s obvious you hate that America is once again winning! Not just your liberal friends in high places who use flowery words and lies to woo votes, when they can’t woo votes they outright steal them!
the pro trump people here are stupid. they will never learn till every penny of their money is in his hands. just like jim baker & tammie faye. always hawking something & never one thought for the harm to US. and they say, they aren’t a cult. THEY are the definition of a cult just by their actions & thoughts. these people’s families need to be notified their people have lost it. can’t see what’s in front of them. all this is easy to check, but do they?
