Young progressives vs. entrenched incumbents — and Trump is watching it all unfold.
The Democratic Party isn’t just fighting Donald Trump — it’s now fighting itself.
David Hogg, the 25-year-old Parkland survivor turned DNC Vice Chair, has launched an unprecedented offensive against his own party’s establishment. His organization, Leaders We Deserve, announced this week it will spend $20 million to unseat Democratic incumbents who, in Hogg’s words, have failed to rise to the challenge of stopping Trump.
“We need a stronger Democratic Party that’s actually ready to fight,” Hogg declared in a fiery statement. “Too many Democrats are sleepwalking while Trump bulldozes democracy. If they won’t lead, they can step aside.”
A Party at War With Itself
The announcement escalates an already tense divide within the Democratic Party. Since Kamala Harris’ crushing loss to Donald Trump in 2024, the party has fractured — not just ideologically, but generationally.
Establishment voices blame the left for pushing too far. But younger progressives say the opposite: the party sold out to corporations, forgot the working class, and refuses to confront Trumpism with the urgency it demands.
Now Hogg — elevated to national prominence after surviving one of the worst school shootings in U.S. history — is using his platform and position to challenge the very machine that promoted him.
Not Everyone Is Safe — But Pelosi Is
Hogg’s group says they won’t go after Democrats in competitive seats — the focus is on safe blue districts where, in their view, leadership has grown stale and ineffective.
But not all senior figures are in the crosshairs. Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, despite facing a challenge from AOC ally Saikat Chakrabarti, won’t be targeted. Why? According to Leaders We Deserve, “She’s still willing to fight Trump head-on. That’s what matters.”
Still, other longtime incumbents may not be so lucky.
Among those already facing pressure:
– Rep. Brad Sherman (CA), being challenged by his former aide, Jake Rakkov.
– Rep. David Scott (GA), facing a challenge from state senator Emanuel Jones.
– Rep. Jan Schakowsky (IL), though Hogg says she’s not on the target list for now.
Blowback From the Inside
The move is shaking the foundations of Democratic leadership — and not everyone is happy about it.
“This is insane behavior from a DNC official, especially while Trump is taking a chainsaw to our democracy,” fumed Democratic strategist Matt Bennett on X.
But others disagree. Strategist Max Burns praised Hogg’s guts: “He actually wants to make a difference. Good on him.”
DCCC Chair Suzan DelBene tried to cool things down, telling Newsweek, “Our focus is taking back the House. That’s how we check Trump. If you want to help, support those winnable races.”
DNC Chair Ken Martin added that it’s ultimately up to voters — not party leadership — to pick their candidates: “Primary voters decide.”
Hogg, however, isn’t backing down: “This is about building a party that’s bold, not just old.”
A New Tea Party?
The cracks in the party are starting to look like the early days of the Republican Tea Party revolt. Only this time, it’s coming from the left — younger, louder, and tired of playing defense.
For Democrats already weary from Trump’s second term, the question now isn’t just how to fight the GOP — but whether they can stop fighting each other long enough to even try.
As one party insider put it bluntly: “Trump’s not our only problem. Complacency is.”
The 2026 midterms are still over a year away, but the Democratic battlefield is already littered with political bodies — and David Hogg just declared open season.

I love how you try to picture Trump as the enemy of democracy! What has he done that is outside of constitutional duties?
For example; Deporting illegals who shouldn’t have been here? No that’s actually what the Executive Branch is supposed to do! Obama did it too! Don’t like the deportations? Then get a rational immigration bill going in congress! The US needs immigration! Yet Why is it so hard for educated English speaking Filipinos to immigrate? Why is it hard for college educated English speaking Canadians to immigrate here? Yet millions can walk across the southern border, without jobs, without a sponser and they can’t speak English, by letting in people who can’t speak English and can’t be paid on the books the US is creating and underclass of people who have no chance for upward mobility/ the American Dream. Thats like the new slavery. And that’s not what Americs should be about!
Introduce rational immigration legislation. Legislation that both sides would be hard pressed to oppose. That’s where change begins and occurs!
So evil Hogg has $20Million from Soros to spend ruining our USA?
It looks like you are on the road to being ruined.
THE HOGG NEEDS TO GET A REAL JOB AND STOP WHINNING!
What a manly man?
