A loud burst of music from Ariana Grande’s catalog echoed through the corridors of Fox News last Friday, disrupting the newsroom during an interview with New York Mayor Eric Adams and former border czar Tom Homan. The unexpected pop interlude led to a lighthearted but revealing exchange on Fox & Friends as co-host Brian Kilmeade struggled to explain why the voice of an outspoken Trump critic was booming from his office.
Dana Perino’s assistant, who was near Kilmeade’s workspace at the time, captured the moment on video. The clip showed Kilmeade’s office in disarray, with papers strewn across the desk and the unmistakable vocals of Grande blasting from an unseen speaker. The footage quickly made its way to the morning show set, where Kilmeade was confronted by his amused co-hosts, Ainsley Earhardt, Steve Doocy, and Lawrence Jones.
“The TV must have set off Alexa,” Kilmeade insisted, attempting to distance himself from the choice of music. “The TV often ignites… there’s a whole world going on without me.”
Earhardt, barely containing her laughter, was quick to call him out. “But the TV wasn’t on,” she pointed out. “The music was belting out of your office. It happened during our interview with Mayor Adams and Tom Homan.”
Doocy, seizing the opportunity, quipped, “Does quid pro quo sound like an Alexa command?”—a pointed reference to the Justice Department’s decision to drop its investigation into Adams, a move some conservatives have criticized as politically motivated.
Jones chimed in, adding, “This is how the robots take over.”
Kilmeade, still in damage control mode, jokingly lamented, “This is why no one wants an office near me.”

The moment was particularly ironic given Grande’s outspoken opposition to Donald Trump. The singer, who has been a vocal advocate for LGBTQ+ rights, condemned Trump’s 2018 policy restricting gender identity recognition to male and female. “Today is a tough day for our community,” she wrote on Instagram at the time. “The incoming administration campaigned on attacking trans people’s lives, healthcare, and dignity. We’re bracing ourselves for what these extremists will try to do next.”
After Trump’s 2024 election victory, Grande, now 31 and a contender for Best Supporting Actress at the Oscars, reiterated her dismay. “Holding the hand of every person who is feeling the immeasurable heaviness of this outcome today,” she posted to her millions of followers.
Whether Kilmeade’s Alexa was truly to blame remains uncertain, but one thing is clear: the unexpected moment gave Fox viewers—and his co-hosts—plenty to talk about.
