Woman, 71, Miraculously Survives After 84-Year-Old Driver Runs Over Her Head on Florida Beach

A peaceful day at the beach nearly turned into tragedy when a 71-year-old woman from New York was run over by a pickup truck while sitting in her beach chair. Despite the horrifying nature of the accident, she survived and is now in stable condition.

The shocking incident occurred on February 5 at approximately 2:43 p.m. near the Silver Beach Avenue beach ramp. Authorities say the elderly woman was relaxing behind a parked vehicle when an 84-year-old driver attempted to leave her parking spot. Driving a Chevrolet Colorado, the woman made a sharp right turn toward the beach exit—without realizing that another person was in her path.

According to the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office, the truck’s right rear tire struck the seated woman, rolling over her head. The driver, apparently unaware of the accident, continued toward the exit until a bystander chased her down and alerted her to what had happened.

A frantic 911 call captured the horrifying moments.

“Hurry up! They ran over her head,” the victim’s husband can be heard telling dispatchers in an audio recording obtained by WESH 2. “She’s talking, but she’s not alright.”

First responders rushed to the scene and transported the woman to a local hospital. Miraculously, her injuries were determined to be non-life-threatening. Medical professionals described her survival as nothing short of remarkable given the extreme risk of head trauma from such an accident.
