In a dramatic rebuke of her cousin Robert F. Kennedy Jr., Caroline Kennedy urged the Senate on Tuesday to reject his nomination as Health and Human Services Secretary under Donald Trump. The eldest daughter of President John F. Kennedy described her cousin as a deeply flawed individual unfit for the role.
“I have known Bobby my entire life. We grew up together,” Kennedy wrote in a letter to the Senate, obtained by The Daily Beast. “His history of manipulation, hypocrisy, and predatory behavior disqualifies him from public service.”
A History of Darkness and Exploitation
Caroline’s letter painted a disturbing picture of RFK Jr.’s younger years. She claimed his behavior often bordered on the macabre, citing his fascination with predatory birds and allegations of cruelty to animals. “It’s no surprise that he keeps birds of prey as pets,” she wrote. “He himself has displayed predatory tendencies, reveling in violence and despair.”
Adding further weight to her criticism, Kennedy accused her cousin of creating “centers of chaos” in his youth, where drugs flowed freely and dark behavior flourished. “His basement, his garage, his dorm room — they were arenas of recklessness and addiction,” she said.
The Kennedy Legacy in Turmoil
The Kennedy family’s tragic history loomed large in Caroline’s letter. She linked her cousin’s behavior to the emotional scars left by their shared tragedies. RFK Jr. lost his father, Senator Robert F. Kennedy, to an assassin’s bullet in 1968, just five years after President Kennedy was killed.
Caroline’s critique, however, went beyond personal pain. She accused RFK Jr. of exploiting the family’s legacy for his gain. “Last year, he distorted my father’s image and twisted his legacy to fuel his own failed presidential campaign,” she wrote. “It’s incomprehensible that someone who shamelessly exploits personal tragedy for publicity could oversee matters of life and death in America.”
The Vaccine Hypocrisy
One of Caroline’s most pointed criticisms targeted RFK Jr.’s controversial stance on vaccines. As a leading figure in the anti-vaccine movement, he has earned millions through his nonprofit, which promotes discredited theories. Yet, Caroline revealed that he vaccinated his own children while warning others against doing the same.
“His anti-vaccine crusade is a fraud,” she asserted. “It has endangered countless lives, all while he reaps financial rewards.”
Financial disclosures have added fuel to the fire. RFK Jr. allegedly failed to report hundreds of thousands of dollars earned from his nonprofit, violating federal requirements for Cabinet nominees.
Family Fractures and Tragedy
The Kennedy family’s challenges have been both public and devastating. RFK Jr. has battled addiction himself, a struggle Caroline acknowledged. “I admire his discipline in overcoming his demons,” she wrote, “but that does not absolve his actions or justify this nomination.”
Caroline’s letter recounted the cascading tragedies that have struck their family. RFK Jr.’s older brother, David, died of a drug overdose in 1984. His cousin, John F. Kennedy Jr., perished in a plane crash in 1999. And in 2019, his niece Saoirse Kennedy Hill succumbed to a fatal drug overdose. These tragedies, she implied, have shaped but not excused RFK Jr.’s conduct.
A Defining Moment for the Senate
Caroline’s decision to go public reflects the gravity of the moment. “We are a close family, and this was not easy to write,” she admitted. “But the stakes are too high to stay silent.”
RFK Jr.’s nomination faces a critical test Wednesday when the Senate Finance Committee holds its hearing. For Caroline and her supporters, this is not just a political decision but a moral reckoning for a family that has long captured America’s imagination.
As Caroline concluded in her letter: “America deserves better. The Kennedy name deserves better.”

Caroline and all Democrats are deeply flawed… and unfit…
I guess in her eyes you can’t change I bet we can find a lot of flawed in her if we look a little self righteous
I know RFK JR is her cousin.
But why do these Democrats have to go around tattling on each other?
Her father was also flawed. So was her grandfather uncles enough is enough. I guess she’s perfect and we’re all flawed.
