Son’s Christmas Eve Rage Ends in Tragic Murder of Mom

A Long Island community was shaken by a brutal Christmas Eve tragedy when a son allegedly stabbed his mother to death while she prepared dinner in their Massapequa home.

Jeremy Ramirez, 27, was arrested and charged with the horrific crime, leaving neighbors and family members grappling with the devastating loss. Nassau County police described the incident as a senseless act of violence, with Detective Sgt. Stephen Fitzpatrick of the Homicide Squad providing chilling details at a press briefing.

“On this particular evening, it was just Jeremy and his mom at the house,” Fitzpatrick said. “She was making dinner when he stabbed her multiple times. He was later observed discarding the knife outside the home.”

A Violent Past

The victim, identified as 57-year-old Josefina Ramirez Montero, was found unresponsive in the living room of their home on Old Sunrise Highway. She was rushed to the hospital but succumbed to her injuries.

Jeremy Ramirez, who had a documented history of violence, had recently returned from a nearby laundromat before allegedly attacking his mother. Authorities have not determined the exact motive behind the gruesome act.

“Given his violent nature and criminal history, it’s difficult to pinpoint what may have triggered such a horrifying act,” Fitzpatrick explained.

Ramirez’s rap sheet dates back to 2018, including arrests for assault and weapons possession. Most notably, he served time for attempted murder, robbery, and gang assault before being released from jail in January 2024.

Community in Shock

The senseless killing has left the tight-knit community reeling. Neighbors described Josefina as a kind and hardworking woman devoted to her family.

“She didn’t deserve this. She was always smiling, always helpful,” said a neighbor who wished to remain anonymous. “It’s heartbreaking to think of what she endured in her final moments.”

Another resident expressed disbelief at Ramirez’s alleged actions. “We knew he had a troubled past, but this… this is beyond comprehension,” they said.

A Holiday Tragedy

Christmas Eve, traditionally a time of joy and togetherness, turned into a scene of unimaginable horror. Authorities are calling for greater attention to domestic violence and mental health issues in the wake of the incident.
