22 People Shot in Mass Shooting in Downtown Birmingham

In a tragic incident on Saturday night, four people were killed and at least 18 others were injured in a shooting in Birmingham, Alabama, according to local police.

The Birmingham Police Department received reports of a major shooting just after 11 p.m. in the 2000 Block of Magnolia Avenue South, situated in the bustling Five Points South Entertainment District. Upon arrival, officers discovered two adult males and one adult female lying unresponsive on a sidewalk, all suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Despite the efforts of Birmingham Fire and Rescue personnel, all three were pronounced dead at the scene.

As police continued to assess the situation, additional victims were found nearby, with some individuals making their way to local hospitals. One man was later pronounced dead at UAB Hospital. As of Sunday morning, a total of 22 individuals had suffered gunshot wounds—four fatalities and 18 injuries ranging from non-life-threatening to critical.

Authorities believe the shooting was not a random act of violence but rather an isolated incident in which multiple suspects opened fire on a large group of people gathered in a public area. Investigators are currently working to identify the intended target of the attack.

The Birmingham Police Department has joined forces with the FBI and ATF for a thorough investigation.
