Robert De Niro says he can’t comprehend why voters aren’t taking Donald Trump “seriously,” comparing the former president to Nazi leader Adolf Hitler and Italian dictator Benito Mussolini.
“I don’t understand why people are not taking him seriously,” the “Ezra” actor said of Trump during a Tuesday appearance on “The View.”
“Because you read about it historically in other countries that they didn’t take the people seriously — Hitler and Mussolini, they’re fools and clowns,” De Niro, one of Hollywood’s most vocal Trump critics, said.
“Who does not think that this guy is going to do exactly what he says he’s going to do?” he asked of the 45th president.
“He’s done it already,” the 80-year-old Academy Award winner continued.
“And then what? We’re gonna sit around and say, what, ‘We told you so?’”
“It’s gonna happen. If he gets elected, it’s going to change this country for everybody,” De Niro said.
“Those people who support him with anger and hate — because that’s what he’s about — they’re going to see,” he said.
“If he becomes president again, he is not going to not stop being president,” Whoopi Goldberg, one of ABC daytime talk show’s co-hosts, added of Trump.
“You understand this? His idea is to stay in until he drops dead,” Goldberg said.
“That’s it,” De Niro agreed.
“He’s not conceding it now. So imagine if he actually did win the election — it’s over. We’re going to have such civil strife,” De Niro said.
Trump said last year that if he wins reelection, he would not seek a third term in office, which is barred by the Constitution.
“When somebody says eight years, we need eight years, no. In six months to a year, many of the problems, almost all of the problems that you and I have just spoken about will be solved,” Trump said last September.
De Niro has been a frequent critic of Trump, once famously saying he wanted to “punch” him in the face and describing him as a “flat-out blatant racist.” The former commander in chief has fired back at the performer over the years, calling De Niro a “very low IQ individual.”

These were the same people that in the 80’s practically begged him to run. They threatened to leave the country even going so far as to state that if he got elected they would leave. Did they? He’ll no they didn’t. What happened? They built a force to accuse him of using Russian influence to get elected. The truth? False. They accused him of using quid-pro quo. Reality? False. Accused him of being a sort of Manchurian candidate. Reality? False. Have accused him of being the mastermind behind the Jan 6th violence. Reality? Well, if you take ALL of the information that is even documented with video and first person accounts that you is false. So where does that leave us? Well let’s see.
Covid rears it head and those who should know say it’s nothing. Every democrat says to go about your daily business and ignore the Trump Administration’s warnings. The people who were advising Trump give him false and misleading information. Military leaders actively undermine his authority.Pertinent information leading up to the election that the American people should have been given was suppressed. Free discussion quashed. The press became an arm of the political elite spreading false stories without checking the voracity of the information. So what’s next? Well it’s already happening. Marshaling of the government to prosecute a political opponent. Multiple verified instances of collusion. A jaded one sided investigation into Jan 6 where half the evidence is suppressed and deleted for the record. Prosecutions of a candidate for things that no other political figure has had to endure and some that even federal prosecutors refused to use because there was nothing there. A case where a state is usurping the federal governments authority and trying to elevate to a felony that which isn’t even a crime and the statute of limitations has long ago run out. A case for which there was no crime, no victim and thus no authority to even bring to court. Something so blatantly weak that gag orders are being put in place to control the narrative. A president so weak and so out of touch that he stays out of the public eye as much as possible because he shoots himself in the foot every time he opens his mouth.
So what we end up with is talking heads and mouthpieces that over and o we ago have to do something, anything, to take the eye of the public off the administration so that the people won’t look behind the curtain to see who is actually pulling the strings and at the controls.
Should Trump cool his rants? Probably. Should he tone down his finger pointing? Maybe. Should he stop pointing out the selective memory of the opposition? Nope. Should he stop hurting democrats feelings? Definitely not. Again the biggest rhing is that by staying loud and out there he stays in the public eye. He allows the press to inadvertently keep him in the forefront of the news cycle. Keeps his name continually in the presses mouths and has the entire democratic party playing defense while at the same time living rent free in their heads and garnering free political advertising during the run up to the Presidential election. Yep, in this day and age a plain spoken candidate who resonates with the American people is the very last thing the political elites want but is the very thing that their actions have given birth too.
