An active shooter at a middle school in Mount Horeb, Wisconsin, was ‘neutralized’ by police who stopped the individual from breaking inside the campus.

Cops responded to reports of a suspect armed with a rifle at Mt Horeb Middle School on Wednesday morning.

The Mount Horeb Area School District wrote on Facebook: ‘The individual did not breach entryway. Police department is helping to scope out our building to ensure the safety of our students and staff.’

As of 11.16am, the entire school district was on full lockdown.

‘Please do not come onto school campus. We will direct you with further instructions as soon as possible,’ stated the district.

‘The safety and security of our students and staff is paramount. We are following our emergency protocols. We will update you when we have more information to share.’

An emergency alert sent by the Dane County Sheriff’s Office stated there was an active shooter on the 900 block of East Garfield Street.

In another updated the school district wrote that law enforcement officials were ‘circulating throughout the middle school to confirm the safety of all students’.

‘The threat has been neutralized outside of the building,’ stated the district.

An initial search of the campus did not ‘has not yielded additional suspects’, said the district at 12.08pm.

‘As importantly, we have no reports of individuals being harmed, with the exception of the alleged assailant,’ the district added.

There was no threat at the intermediate center, where students were being evacuated to go to buses and be taken to a reunification site. Middle school students were allowed to use restrooms in the interior of the campus but were not immediately released.

At 1.45pm, the school district announced that local police had given permission for intermediate center students to reunify with their families. The district also ensured that middle school students and staff ‘remain safe’ as dismissal for them remained on hold.

‘You would be so proud of our students and staff, and we’re so grateful for our first responders,’ wrote the district.

  1. They got lucky. 90% of the time the advantage is with the shooter.

Maybe all this would work better if all sort of people would not have access to semi-automatic guns?….Just wondering if we ever going to use critical thinking and common sense?…….Nah !!!

    1. How old was the person with the gun? Where did he get it? If a juvenile, where were the parents? The Guns are not the problem and 80+% of all shootings are done with hand guns NOT semi automatic rifles. These kids are not buying guns at gun shows or stores. Someone knows where they’re getting them. That’s where the problem is.

  3. Beyond “an assailant, with a rifle”, there is no identifying information of the offender. As it should be. No glorification for his (?) ego.

  4. Well, well……………taking all the guns off the street. That will solve it. Hmm
Take the illcit drugs off the streets. I suspect the majority for gun violence will
    decrease.
However, I suspect neither will occur!
Too much money to be made. Sad
