The fluorescent yellowish-green bag, known as the “Microscopic Handbag,” is the brainchild of New York art collective MSCHF and is based on a popular Louis Vuitton design, although it is not an official creation of the luxury label.

Barely visible to the human eye, the tiny handbag is a result of two-photon polymerization, a cutting-edge manufacturing technology used for 3D-printing micro-scale plastic parts. To view the bag, it was sold alongside a microscope equipped with a digital display, allowing admirers to explore its intricate details.

The promotional photo reveals the unmistakable “LV” monogram, resembling Louis Vuitton’s OnTheGo tote. The original bag, in its full-size version, is priced between $3,100 and $4,300. However, MSCHF’s Microscopic Handbag is a unique and exceptional creation, incorporating the iconic design on a scale smaller than a grain of sea salt.

The online auction, hosted by Joopiter, a platform founded by Pharrell Williams, American musician, record producer, and designer, drew attention to MSCHF’s remarkable artistry. While Pharrell currently serves as the creative director of menswear at Louis Vuitton, MSCHF did not seek permission from him or the luxury brand to use their logo or design. In fact, MSCHF’s chief creative officer, Kevin Wiesner, humorously stated that the incredibly small bag was made as a tribute to Pharrell’s love for big hats.

MSCHF, founded in 2016, is known for its provocative and satirical art projects that often challenge consumer capitalism. They gained notoriety with their “Satan Shoes,” a limited series of modified Nike sneakers featuring satanic symbols and drops of real human blood, which resulted in a legal dispute with Nike. The group has also playfully taken on luxury fashion, such as their creation of “Birkinstocks” by dismantling Birkin handbags and transforming them into sandals.
