Boy, 8, Tragically Dies at Luxury Resort

An eight-year-old boy has reportedly died after he was found unresponsive in the flower garden of a Fiji resort last week. Investigators are now focusing on electrocution as the possible cause of death.

The boy, who hasn’t been named, was found dead at Club Wyndham Denarau Island in Fiji on Thursday evening, February 9. A resort official confirmed that he had died.

The boy from Sydney was reportedly found unresponsive earlier that evening and rushed to Nadi hospital in the capital Suva where a nurse reported his death to the authorities. The resort, which is part of the Wyndham Destinations corporation, is said to be fully cooperating with a police investigation into the incident.

Possible electrocution

“We have expressed our heartfelt condolences to the family, and our thoughts remain with them at this time,” a Wyndham Destinations Asia Pacific spokesperson said in a statement. “Our management team is currently conducting a thorough investigation into the incident and cooperating with the police and authorities.”

The boy is reportedly a New Zealand national but lived in Sydney. Fiji police said the boy may have been electrocuted in a statement to the Sydney Morning Herald. “Initial information gathered is that the child was allegedly electrocuted however the post-mortem will have to confirm that,” a police spokesperson said.

The New Zealand Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade said it was aware of the tragic demise. “We are aware of the death of a child in Denarau and are providing assistance to the family,” an MFAT spokesperson said in a statement. “For privacy reasons, no further details will be provided.” It’s worth noting that Club Wyndham was featured on ‘Married at First Sight Australia’.

Similar incident

As previously reported how a vacation for a Georgia family ended in tragedy after their four-year-old child mysteriously fell from the balcony of a Florida resort. The unfortunate incident reportedly happened on Saturday, September 3, and the body of the toddler was discovered by a gym goer on the ground. The same person called the Panama City Police Department about the tragedy at Laketown Wharf Resort in Florida.

Cops reportedly said that they believe the child, whose name and gender wasn’t revealed, plunged to his or her death from the third-floor balcony at 4.30 am. However, what caused the fall is unclear. “This is a terrible tragedy, and our thoughts are with this family,” the Panama City Beach Police Department said in a statement.

The resort is described on its website as “the largest single-building condominium vacation resort in the Panama City area. Guests enjoy a choice of stunning Gulf, golf course and lake views,” adding that it is a “prime location for a fun-filled getaway.”
