GOP Rep. Adam Kinzinger of Illinois on Friday fiercely criticized his own party, telling MSNBC in an interview that Republicans need to return to the truth.
Kinzinger said the GOP is unrecognizable today because “what has changed is the use of conspiracy” and “the absolute lack of courage to call it out.”
“It’s sad because the Republican Party will exist,” he said. “But it has lost, in a lot of people’s minds, any credibility. And it’s going to take a while to get it back.”
“We have a truth crisis in this party,” Kinzinger continued. “You can have different opinions. But you can’t have a different truth.”
The lawmaker also described “the fear” that’s spread among Republican leaders “against a man that is basically insane sending out press releases from Mar-a-Lago,” referring to former President Donald Trump.
Unlike many members of his party, Kinzinger has often publicly rebuked Trump and rose to prominence as a vocal critic of the former president, which he has faced backlash over.
Kinzinger also commented on the lies spread about the 2020 presidential election, which lead to Trump supporters violently storming the Capitol on January 6 last year.
“When you undermine [the voting process] through lies to people, violence is not a surprise,” he said.
Kinzinger’s remarks on Friday come as the House select committee investigating the January 6 insurrection digs into what happened in the leadup to and during the riot. Kinzinger and Rep. Liz Cheney of Wyoming are the only Republicans serving on the congressional panel. Several Republican figures, including Trump, have mocked the committee and its probe.
In his MSNBC interview, the congressman also touched on this year’s midterm elections with Republicans vying to take control of Congress.
“You have to tell people the truth. And right now, everybody’s got their hand in the sand because they want to win reelection. What’s winning reelection honestly worth if you can’t actually do your job of telling people the truth, or you’re ashamed to look yourself in the mirror?”
Kinzinger announced last year that he will not seek reelection.

What is the truth? We the ordinary working, tax paying American have no way to know. We hear what someone else wants us too, then we try to read between all the garbage and find some truth, we hope. All the ones in control tell us what they want us to hear, and it used to be most news people were trust worthy but we all know that has changed. Our politicians we elect and pay most has lost all credibility, they just care for what helps them, they might have always been this way and I was just more naive when I was younger, so what is truth?

Truth is reality. And here are my thoughts about the fact that our only recent choices for the POTUS have been Clinton, Trump, and Biden; and that is the terrible truth.

I voted for former President Trump against Clinton and Biden. And I will vote for whoever runs against today’s Leftist Socialist Democrats. They believe not only that all is fair in love and war, but whatever Democrats say and do. They lie, cheat, and steal continually. Their core value is that the end justifies the means. They are EVIL; LET ME REPEAT, EVIL.
However, former President Trump should NOT be our candidate for the next POTUS. He had many good programs and policies, but his time wasted on McCain put Biden in office and the Democrats in power in the House and Senate.
His criticism of McCain for being a POW in North Vietnam cost us the open Senate seat in Arizona and therefore the Democrats now control the Senate. Ten of my 1964 USAF Academy classmates (pilots) endured that North Vietnam POW torture and hell. Several others died in combat. Former President Trump never once put his life on the line in war.
And his recent negative comments about Colin Powell are another example of how to lose votes from those who served with and respect his service to our country.
Trump needs to read about the success of Reagan and Coolidge who focused on programs and never wasted time belittling their political opponents.
And why does former President Trump criticize his most loyal friends and staff who may disagree with him? He is not a god and all knowing, and his biggest faults are his lack of humility (PRIDE), big ego, failure to listen to others, attacks on people because they aren’t physically beautiful, and his wasted efforts to belittle his political opponents.
We will need former President Trump’s financial help and the support of those who voted for him in the past, and only by selecting persons like DeSantis, Haley, Tim Scott, Pence, John Kennedy, Rick Scott, and Mike Pompeo will our next POTUS and Vice POTUS be experienced and wise conservatives that can save our nation.
Regarding former President Trump, I admire many of his attributes, but he has too many negative political deficiencies.

Mr. Trump,
I am retired military, with over 30 years’ service. At minimum, two things you have said more than anger me.
First, I graduated from the Air Force Academy in 1964 and many of my classmates died in combat or were captured as POWs. You said that those captured were losers when you so criticized McCain. I know you have never served in the military and in a combat zone. So, as CS Lewis stated in his book Mere Christianity, you should keep your mouth shut about war, as you know nothing about it.
Second, you claim to be a Christian and have never had to ask for forgiveness. You are not Jesus, so you have sinned in mind and deed (rebelled against God and his teachings and commandments) so please stop your spiritual charade. You would do well to talk to Mr. Pence who seems to have his life priorities straight.
I could go on about your many past, negative statements, but your advisors and family should have enough courage to tell you to stop your arrogant, vain, and pompous comments and behavior. We need leadership and that includes controlling your mouth.

You will find that the statement made by Trump is a key indicator of narcissism. Another key trait is that they suck the oxygen out of the room. Another key trait is belittling everyone and feeling you are superior, above all of them. Narcissists cannot take “no” for an answer and hate to be opposed. Narcissists will tell you to your face when you have video and audio proof that they never said or did that thing. They will tell you your video is fake news. on and on. I agree with you as a Vietnam War Era Navy veteran and as a human being. Thank you for telling the truth about Trump!
Honestly, I understand how folks react to some of the more inflammatory tweets and/or comments made by President Trump. He was so effective in his governing and his record of behavior was no worse than Hillary and then Good Old Joe – not too smart but honest, but who was uncovered before the election as one of the most corrupt and greedy politicians, maybe ever, and so I voted for him. There has never been anyone in that position more successful and we somehow were so offended by his verbal “get backs” or tweets to anyone who criticized him that we elected a wrecking ball to replace him, who, by the way, rules by edict! Go figure! As simple – mostly – as finding something else to do in the wee hours other than TWEET! That is all it would have taken!! He handed the liberal, liberal media/so-called-journalists all the fodder they needed to go on and on at least two – three times a week about some tweet that had nothing to do with governing and ignore, amazing an economy, energy ndependence, bring troops home from foreign entanglements in an orderly manner, southern border “under control”, on and on. I understand the so-called (once) stellar news channel, CNN. would give 30 seconds or maybe a minute and a half to those news stories and then report and discuss the latest tweet or mean remark.

What President Trump should have been sophisticated enough to “know” was that it would be and was egged on not only by Antifa and their sorts and -good grief! the FBI? on “undercover” duty. Nothing that happened among the so-called rioters was in any way as bad as any of the violent, arsonist, vandals, thievery riots that went on for a year! And what is the body count for the year or more of riots, etc. – actual deaths by the perpetrators!?? Not one gun of any sort found among the “rioters” at the Capital. Minimal damage for what is being billed as an Insurrection, Riot, etc. How do they figure that – oh, yes , Liberals don’t need to show evidence or just cause for anything they say because the press/media for the most part just parrots what they say as truth and never, ever puts out a correction when it proves to be a lie!!
