Police have not yet said whether the shootings are connected.
Delisa Tucker was just steps away from her son’s memorial early Wednesday morning when she was fatally shot.
She had lost 14-year-old Kevin Tinker to gun violence the Sunday before, and friends said she was tending to his memorial when she was gunned down.
“While she was lighting candles for her son, her life was taken,” wrote Michelle Tharpe, a family friend, on the GoFundMe page set up to help pay the family’s funeral expenses. “This world is so cold.”
Police responded to a ShotSpotter alert at around 12:15 a.m. and found Tucker, 31, lying on a sidewalk in the 200 block of West 110th Place. She was transported to Roseland Hospital and pronounced dead, according to officials.
They reported finding no one on the block who saw the shooting, and no one’s been taken into custody for that attack or the one on her son.
On Sunday, her son was shot several times at the exact same location and pronounced dead on the scene, according to police.
“He was a quiet boy,” Tharpe wrote in the GoFundMe page. “Rest well Lil Kevin.”
CPD said investigations for both shooting are ongoing. Chicago police declined to comment on whether the shootings are connected, according to the Chicago Sun-Times.
Tucker leaves behind five other children, according to Tharpe.
Shootings have spiked in Chicago this year, according to CPD crime data. As of Nov. 8, there had been 3,105 incidents in 2021, an increase of 10% over 2020 and a 66% increase compared with 2019.

Chicago needs to get rid of the AG that allows criminals to get out of jail without posting bail so they can go out and commit horrible crimes over and over again. They don’t allow the police to actually arrest those that shoot kids, mothers, fathers. They don’t respect Chicagoans only the criminals.

The other problem is women who are 31 and have 6 kids. This doesn’t mention a father so makes me wonder how many fathers there are. This is the problem kids that are being raised by moms alone, moms either on assistance or working low paying jobs that can’t afford much. Stop having all these kids you aren’t prepared to actually raise not letting them run the streets and get into nothing but trouble.

As long as the killer(s) are black…. no one will get too upset.
It doesn’t matter her age or her color, or how many children she had. What matters is, she was murdered, and the shooter should be brought to justice, so should the one who killed her son. Chicago needs to boot lightfoot out and get a REAL mayor who cares about the city and the people!
It does matter! If you don’t have so many kids at such a young age you maybe would have a better life! When this is your life you and your children are stuck in these crime infested areas.
What is sad is that you really are not shocked by these blacks killing blacks because it happens all too often.
No protests, no celebrities crying how outrageous these tragedies are. But a white law enforcement officer doing his job shoots a black then all the riots and protests come out of no wear across our country. GO FIGURE THAT ONE OUT !
BLM, but only when a white person kills a black person. Black killing black is absolutely OK, it’s a “black thing” and whites have no right to comment on it. Where are the demonstrators? Why isn’t this being discussed? I wonder how many more blacks are killed by blacks than blacks killed by whites. But then that is a rhetorical question because I am one of the privileged white folks and have no right to be heard on this subject.
