Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand (D-N.Y.) says she’ll soon invite Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex, to Washington to talk paid family leave with her female colleagues in the upper chamber.

The 2020 White House hopeful said Meghan recently called her to talk about the hot-button issue, as congressional Democrats debate what will be a part of their multitrillion-dollar human infrastructure spending bill.

“I could hear how sincere she was about advocacy,” Gillibrand said in an interview with The 19th on Thursday.

Gillibrand told the site that she intends to invite the former “Suits” actor born Meghan Markle to the nation’s capital in the next month for a bipartisan dinner to discuss paid leave with the women of the Senate.

The lawmaker said at least one of her Republican colleagues, Sen. Deb Fisher (Neb.), is on board and told her that she’s “delighted and looking forward to that conversation.”

Gillibrand said she gave the 40-year-old mom of two with Prince Harry the phone numbers of some of her GOP colleagues so she could advocate for paid leave. Sens. Shelley Moore Capito (W.Va.) and Susan Collins (Maine) both described receiving personal calls from Meghan in a report earlier this week.

The potential invite to Washington from Gillibrand comes after Meghan publicly called for paid family leave last month in an open letter to Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) and Senate Majority Leader Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.).

“No family should have to choose between earning a living and having the freedom to take care of their child (or a loved one, or themselves, as we would see with a comprehensive paid leave plan),” Meghan wrote.

While the British royal family is expected to maintain political neutrality, Meghan and Harry stepped away from their duties as full-time working members and moved to her home state of California last year.
