Prince William has been branded a climate change hypocrite over private jet use in billboards targeting delegates at COP26.

Anti Monarchy group Republic launched an advertising campaign to try to scupper efforts by the royals to position themselves as climate change champions at the United Nations backed conference.

President Joe Biden and other world leaders will gather in Glasgow from October 31 for crunch talks on reducing carbon emissions.

The royal family will also be out in force to give Britain a diplomatic boost as the country chairs the summit.

Queen Elizabeth II, Prince William and Kate Middleton and Prince Charles and Camilla, the Duchess of Cornwall, are all expected to attend, though the queen has recently canceled events citing doctors’ advice.

However, delegates may find themselves confronted with billboards branding Prince William and his father Prince Charles “hypocritical” over their use of helicopters and private jets.

Graham Smith, Republic chief executive, told Newsweek: “The royals have jumped on this environment bandwagon. They need to be called out on it.

“They’re supposed to stay out of politics, the environment is hugely political not least because climate change, dealing with it and cutting carbon emissions, requires some kind of cost and there’s a huge question over who bears the burden of that cost.

“The biggest thing is that they are incredibly hypocritical. They routinely at taxpayers’ expense fly by helicopter and private jet and they maintain at least two dozen large homes which are heated and staffed all year round even if they only go there a few times a year.

“The hypocrisy is quite stark and we just want to call them out on it. They can’t get away with painting themselves as environmental champions.

“If anything it does cause a lot of harm.”

Prince Charles has been campaigning on environmental causes since the 1970s and both his sons have since taken on the baton.

Prince William recently held his first Earthshot Prize awards ceremony at Alexandra Palace, in London, when £1 million was given to each of five winners for innovative solutions to the world’s problems.

However, the royals between them took more than 94 private jets and 191 helicopter journeys in the year 2019 to 2020 using public money, according to the Sovereign Grant Report.

U.K. newspaper The Sunday Times accused Prince Charles of hypocrisy at the weekend after his charity, the Prince’s Foundation, accepted donations from Saudi Arabian state oil company Aramco.

A spokesperson for The Prince’s Foundation told Newsweek: “The Prince’s Foundation is already undertaking a review into sustainability criteria for new donations. The review is ongoing.”

  1. i am totally against all the climate change propaganda ….it was a natural occurrance until all the solar panels and windmills …the epoch times had a great opinion piece that was great on sept 29th by willis cole jr…wake up people

  2. I DO NOT BELIEVE IN CLIMATE CHANGE -THIS SO-CALLED CLIMATE CHANGE IS MAN-MADE AND IS BOUND TO BACKFIRE. WE CANNOT CONTROL NATURE – ONLY GOD CAN !!! We can however contribute to the improvement of our climate by minimizing rapid growth of population, utilization of high tech devices and equipment.
The world is over populated now and pretty soon we’d be extinct, too, just like the dinosaurs that roamed the earth. We can reduce the global/earth’s population by limiting the number of children to 3-4 per family, the use of super technologies in each and every country. By limiting the growth of population, the use of super high technologies we also reduce the amount of gas/carbon dioxide we exhale that reaches the earth’s ozone layer making our atmosphere polluted. I implore all world leaders to think about and do a more serious research on the relationship of over population, utilization of high technologies and how these two factors affect the climate in this world we live in.
