What Melania Trump ‘Really Does’ Revealed

Melania Trump’s striking absence from her husband’s second White House term may be having a bigger impact on President Donald Trump than anyone realized, according to one of his most outspoken former advisers.

Anthony Scaramucci, who famously lasted just 11 days as White House communications director during Trump’s first administration, claims the president has become noticeably more emboldened now that his wife and much of his family are no longer regularly at his side.

Speaking on the Daily Beast Podcast, Scaramucci pointed to what he sees as one of the biggest differences between Trump’s first and second presidencies: the relative disappearance of the Trump family from the day-to-day White House orbit.

“He’s got nobody in there,” Scaramucci said.

Melania, in particular, has maintained an unusually low public profile. According to the Daily Beast, the first lady was seen publicly just 47 times in 2025 following Trump’s Jan. 20 inauguration and appeared on only 38 days during the first seven months of 2026.

Scaramucci suggested her absence matters because Melania was once among the very small group of people capable of getting Trump to back down.

“When she was more friendly with him, she would tell him to tone it down and he would actually listen to her,” Scaramucci told host Joanna Coles.

“There’s very few people that Trump listens to.”

Without that influence nearby, Scaramucci argued, the president has become increasingly willing to follow his own instincts without anyone close enough to pump the brakes.

He also speculated that the Trumps’ marriage has become more distant.

“I think it’s distant for a number of different reasons,” Scaramucci said. “But I think they probably have grown apart.”

Scaramucci stopped short of claiming direct knowledge of what happens inside the couple’s marriage, but said Melania’s limited presence appears to reflect a broader change surrounding Trump during his second administration.

And she isn’t the only family member keeping Washington at arm’s length.

During Trump’s first presidency, his children and other relatives were far more visible, with members of the family frequently appearing alongside him and, in some cases, taking prominent roles in his political operation.

Scaramucci believes the bruising experience of Trump’s first term left the family with little desire to do it all over again.

“The family unit that came into Trump 1.0 didn’t like it,” he said.

“They didn’t like the blistering in Washington. They didn’t like the 360-degree firing squad. I don’t think they like the spotlight that was put on them.”

When Trump decided to return to presidential politics, Scaramucci suggested the message from the family was essentially: You’re on your own this time.

“I think that when he ran again, they all more or less said, ‘Okay, that one was on all of us; this one’s on you,’” he said.

Trump, according to his former aide, went ahead anyway.

Scaramucci admitted he was surprised the president was willing to return to Washington without the family structure that surrounded him during his first administration.

“He’s there without his family,” Scaramucci said. “And I was surprised by that, by the way.”

“I would have said, this is going to be hard for him because he does everything with his family and they are not in the mix with him.”

Melania’s whereabouts and living arrangements have also fueled persistent questions about just how much time she spends at the White House.

“It’s pretty clear that they’re not living together,” Scaramucci claimed.

He suggested that arrangement may not be entirely new, saying journalists covering Trump’s first term may have already suspected the couple spent considerable time apart.

“But that doesn’t mean that she’s not going to show up and be friendly and she’s not going to do certain things,” he added.

The White House did not respond to the Daily Beast’s request for comment regarding Melania’s absence.

Whatever the reality behind closed doors, Scaramucci believes the political consequences are becoming increasingly visible.

In his telling, the Trump now occupying the Oval Office has fewer family members nearby, fewer trusted voices willing to challenge him and, perhaps most importantly, no Melania regularly telling him when he has gone too far.

And for a president already known for testing political boundaries, Scaramucci appears to believe that could make Trump’s second act in Washington far less restrained than his first.
