Donald Trump tried to sound tough as tensions with Iran spiraled even further out of control — but instead of projecting strength, he handed critics fresh ammunition with an embarrassing blunder.

In a dramatic Truth Social post on Saturday, the 79-year-old president issued Tehran a 48-hour ultimatum and promised to unleash “Hell” if Iran failed to back down. But the chest-thumping warning quickly got overshadowed by a glaring typo that turned his attempt at menace into instant mockery.

“Remember when I gave Iran ten days to MAKE A DEAL or OPEN UP THE HORMUZ STRAIT,” Trump wrote. “Time is running out – 48 hours before all Hell will reign down on them.”

That single word — “reign” instead of “rain” — was enough to send social media into overdrive, with critics pointing out that Trump’s saber-rattling message landed more like a botched post than a serious act of presidential leadership.

He then signed off with a grandiose flourish ahead of Easter Sunday, writing, “Glory be to GOD! President DONALD J. TRUMP,” even as Pope Leo XIV had used his Palm Sunday message to warn against leaders glorifying war and using religion as political cover.

The post came as the crisis in the Persian Gulf continues to intensify. Iran’s closure of the Strait of Hormuz has now dragged on for more than a month, choking off one of the world’s most important oil routes, driving up gas prices and shaking already nervous global markets.

Trump’s latest outburst followed an even more alarming threat in which he reportedly floated the idea of “completely obliterating” Iran’s electric generating plants, oil wells, Kharg Island and possibly desalination facilities. Critics have warned that rhetoric like that crosses a dangerous line, especially given that civilian infrastructure is generally protected under international law.

And while Trump keeps insisting he is a “peace president,” the reality on the ground tells a far darker story.

The conflict is now nearing its sixth week. One U.S. service member was rescued after Iran shot down an American F-15 fighter jet on Friday, but another remains missing. Reports say Iranian officials have even offered a $65,000 reward for information leading to the capture of the second crew member.

Even with the stakes rising by the hour, Trump has continued to publicly downplay the bloodshed. He has claimed the conflict was “already won” in the first hour, despite the reported deaths of 13 U.S. service members and more than 1,900 Iranians. Reports out of Iran say around 1,600 people have been killed since the war began, including at least 244 children.

At the same time, hopes for a diplomatic off-ramp appear to be fading fast. Trump has repeatedly hinted that a deal was close, but those talks now look to be collapsing. According to Wall Street Journal reporter Summer Said, Iranian officials rejected negotiations with U.S. representatives in Islamabad and called the American demands “unacceptable.”

So while Trump was trying to project power with another all-caps threat, what many saw instead was a president escalating a deadly conflict, brushing off the human cost and stumbling over his own words in the process.

  1. Reign is correct… Good King Trump reigns over The Straits of Trump as well as reigns over his new Kingdom of Iran… or what’s left of it in a week… MAGA/Trump/USA has had enough of Iran stalling and false promising… either they unconditionally surrender to the good elements within Iran… or go dark in 48 hours…

Good Trump needs to reign over evil NextGen, as well…
