Former President Joe Biden’s emotional tribute to civil rights leader Jesse Jackson has ignited a new wave of concern about his health after viewers noticed the 83-year-old struggling through portions of his remarks.

Biden appeared at Jackson’s funeral alongside former Presidents Bill Clinton and Barack Obama to honor the longtime activist, who died on February 17 at age 84. The service brought together political figures, civil rights leaders, and longtime allies who gathered to celebrate Jackson’s decades-long fight for racial equality and social justice.

But Biden’s appearance quickly became the focus of intense debate online.

Several viewers claimed the former president appeared to slur words and lose his place while delivering the eulogy. Clips circulating on social media showed Biden pausing mid-sentence and at times appearing to stumble over phrases.

Critics did not hold back.

“Joe Biden is painful to watch,” one user wrote on X, while another said the speech was “hard to follow and even harder to listen to.”

Another commenter wrote: “He’s 83 and clearly struggling. It’s sad to see.”

The former president has kept a relatively low profile since leaving the White House, particularly after revealing a cancer diagnosis that shocked supporters and critics alike. His public appearances have been limited, making each speech or event closely scrutinized.

During the funeral, Biden praised Jackson’s legacy as one of the most influential civil rights figures of the modern era.

“Reverend Jackson spent his life fighting to expand the promise of America,” Biden said during his remarks. “He reminded us that justice is never guaranteed — it must be fought for.”

Jackson rose to national prominence during the civil rights movement and later ran for president twice, helping shape the Democratic Party’s modern coalition.

Despite the emotional tone of the service, attention quickly shifted to Biden’s delivery rather than the message itself.

The concerns echo previous moments that sparked similar criticism during Biden’s later years in public life.

At an international LGBTQ+ leaders conference last December, Biden briefly stumbled over the word “America,” saying “the United States of Amerigotit” before correcting himself.

“We’re the United States,” he quickly added as the audience reacted.

Another widely discussed incident occurred during a NATO summit when Biden mistakenly introduced Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky as “President Putin,” before quickly correcting the error.

“I’m so focused on beating Putin,” Biden said at the time, attempting to explain the slip.

Hours later at a separate event, he accidentally referred to Vice President Kamala Harris as “Vice President Trump” before catching himself.

The repeated verbal missteps fueled long-running debates about Biden’s age and stamina during the final years of his presidency.

Even family photos have sparked speculation.

Last Christmas, Biden posted a holiday picture on social media that critics claimed made him appear partially hidden behind First Lady Jill Biden, prompting conspiracy-filled claims that the image had been digitally altered.

One skeptical commenter asked simply: “Where’s Joe?”

Supporters argue that occasional speech stumbles are nothing new for Biden, who has spoken openly for decades about overcoming a childhood stutter. They say critics often exaggerate minor mistakes.

Still, the latest appearance has reignited questions about how the aging former president is holding up physically and mentally as he continues to make occasional public appearances.

For many watching the funeral, the moment was bittersweet.

A historic civil rights figure was being laid to rest — but the spotlight had once again shifted to the health of the man delivering the tribute.

  1. My thoughts, President Biden spoke well enough for me. He may be old, but I understood him. My thoughts, he speaks better than Trump & I respect him!
