A shocking dashcam video shows the terrifying moment a driver allegedly gambling on his phone slammed into the back of a family SUV — triggering a chain-reaction crash that sent a pregnant woman into early labor.
Jack Bentley, 30, of Derby, UK has been sentenced to two years and four months behind bars after pleading guilty to two counts of causing serious injury by dangerous driving.
Footage released by Derbyshire Police shows Bentley’s Ford Focus drifting and weaving between lanes before violently crashing into the rear of a Nissan X-Trail last April. The force of the impact shoved the SUV into another vehicle ahead of it.
Inside the Nissan was a pregnant passenger who suffered a fractured pelvis in the wreck. She was rushed to the hospital, where doctors performed an emergency C-section. Her baby was born prematurely and had to be placed in intensive care.
The Nissan’s driver and two children in the vehicle were also hurt in the crash. Even the family’s dog wasn’t spared — the pet required emergency surgery following the collision.
Authorities say Bentley had been gambling on his phone at the time of the crash, turning a moment of reckless distraction into a life-altering disaster for an entire family.
