Rob Gronkowski has built a reputation as one of the wildest personalities in NFL history — but when it comes to money, he says he’s done something almost unheard of in pro sports.
The four-time Super Bowl champion revealed that he has technically never spent a single dollar of the salary he earned during his entire NFL career.
The shocking confession came during a recent appearance on the Bussin’ with the Boys podcast, where Gronkowski confirmed that the long-circulating rumor about his finances is actually true. Despite earning millions over more than a decade in the league, he says every cent of his football paychecks is still sitting untouched.
Gronkowski explained that his ultra-cautious approach started the moment he entered the league in 2010. Drafted in the second round, he said he never assumed fame, fortune, or longevity were guaranteed. With a four-year, $4 million rookie contract, he approached his career as if it could end at any moment.
Instead of splurging, Gronkowski said the only early money he ever used came from a $50,000 bonus advanced by his agent, Drew Rosenhaus. That cash went toward necessities like a car and housing in New England — and even that money had to be paid back over time.
While other players were buying luxury cars and mansions, Gronkowski said he lived with a roommate and kept his lifestyle deliberately low-key. He described himself as “very frugal,” admitting he was focused on survival, not status.
He said his thinking was simple: if he could finish his rookie contract without disaster, he’d already be set for life. Even if he never became the superstar he believed he could be, having a few million saved felt like financial freedom.
Gronkowski also revealed that all of his day-to-day spending came from off-the-field income, including endorsements and appearances. His NFL salary, he said, stayed completely untouched. “Technically, I have not spent any of my NFL money,” he told the podcast.
That disciplined mindset paid off. Gronkowski went on to become one of the most dominant tight ends in NFL history, winning four Super Bowls alongside quarterback Tom Brady and cementing his legacy as a future Hall of Famer.
Since retiring in 2022, Gronkowski has remained in the spotlight, transitioning into broadcasting with Fox Sports alongside Brady and former Patriots teammate Julian Edelman.
Off the field, Gronkowski continues to live a high-energy life with longtime girlfriend Camille Kostek. Earlier this year, Kostek said Gronkowski is busier than ever as he attacks this new chapter, telling Fox News Digital that they’re constantly traveling, working, and chasing new challenges together.
For a player once known for party cruises, WWE cameos, and end-zone spikes, Gronkowski’s biggest shock might not be what he did on the field — but what he never did with his money.
