A chaotic scene unfolded Thursday afternoon at Fir Vale Academy in Sheffield, England, after a large fight erupted between students, prompting a heavy police response and reports that two teachers were rushed to the hospital.
Authorities say officers were called just after midday to what they described as a “disturbance” at the secondary school, which serves roughly 1,000 students.
But parents on the ground painted a far more dramatic picture.
“It was chaos,” one parent wrote on social media after picking up their child. Others claimed multiple students were involved in the melee and that staff members were injured while trying to intervene.
South Yorkshire Police confirmed officers arrived shortly after 12 p.m. local time.
“It is reported a fight broke out between a number of students,” a spokesperson said in a statement. “Officers are at the scene and are supporting school staff in the response.”
Police vehicles reportedly lined the street outside the campus, with witnesses counting as many as seven squad cars.
Parents told local community pages that two teachers were taken to the hospital following the incident. One educator was said to have fainted during the confrontation. The extent of their injuries has not been publicly disclosed.
Confusion surrounded the emergency response.
While police confirmed their presence at the school, a spokesperson for Yorkshire Ambulance Service said they were “not aware” of any incidents when contacted by reporters — raising questions about how the injured teachers were transported and treated.
Local traffic was temporarily disrupted as officers secured the area. A community Facebook page warned drivers to avoid surrounding roads while authorities worked to contain the situation.
Fir Vale Academy, located on Owler Lane, has a long history in the Sheffield community. The original Fir Vale School opened in the late 1990s and was formally inaugurated in 2004 by Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip. It later transitioned into academy status in 2012 as part of broader education reforms in the U.K.
As of Thursday evening, police said officers remained at the scene assisting staff.
“Further updates will be communicated via our website or official social media channels,” the department said. Authorities are urging anyone with information to contact police and reference incident number 303 of February 26, 2026.
No arrests have been announced. The number of students involved has not yet been confirmed.
